1. Introduction

Tempo Kit (“we,” “our,” or “the extension”) is a browser extension for supported desktop browsers, including Chromium-based browsers and the Firefox build, published by Crescendo Companion LLC. It provides practice tools for musicians, including a metronome, tuner, timers, customizable widgets and practice workspaces, a mini controls dock, a practice journal, presets and set lists, sheet music and practice resources, recordings, and video practice tools. This Privacy Policy explains the data Tempo Kit handles, why it is handled, who it is shared with, and how you can contact us. It also covers this website, which may display advertising separately from the extension.

2. Privacy Commitments

Tempo Kit is designed to keep practice data on your device and to avoid collecting more information than is needed to provide the extension, Pro access, payments, and support. We do not operate analytics, advertising, or practice-data collection servers for the extension.

  • No analytics or usage tracking in the extension
  • No cookies in the extension
  • No advertising or marketing trackers in the extension
  • No user accounts managed by us
  • No practice libraries, practice recordings, microphone audio, tab audio, video-site audio, or local files are sent to our servers

3. Browser Extension Storage

Tempo Kit stores the settings and practice data you choose to save in your browser profile. This storage is used to run the extension, restore your preferences, and keep your practice libraries available in the browser.

Small preferences, such as theme, language, tempo, sound, timer, and display settings, may use synced browser extension storage. If browser sync is enabled, your browser provider may sync those preferences to your other signed-in browser profiles.

Practice library data stays in device-local browser extension storage. This includes folders, presets, set lists, practice notes, Journal entries, Dashboard and Sidebar layouts, widget settings, checklists, rep counters, saved video practice profiles, loop points, speed, transpose, and related practice settings. This data is not sent to a Tempo Kit server.

Practice recordings can contain microphone audio and, when you enable the camera, video. Media and recording details stay in a local browser database on your device. During a take, Tempo Kit saves temporary chunks locally so completed chunks can be recovered after an interruption. Keep saves the take to your library; Discard removes the pending take. JSON backups include recording details but not media bytes. Everything + recordings exports a ZIP set containing the media too; keep every part of the set. Downloads provide additional copies outside the extension; supported Chromium browsers also offer an optional recording folder.

Tempo Kit also keeps a minimal local Pro-status cache returned by ExtensionPay so the extension can show your purchase status. Payment card numbers, CVV, billing address, invoices, and transaction history are not stored by Tempo Kit.

You can clear extension-stored data by uninstalling Tempo Kit or clearing extension data from your browser's extension settings page.

4. Microphone and Camera Access

Tempo Kit requests microphone access for the chromatic tuner and practice recordings. Camera access is requested only when you enable camera recording.

Tuner. When you use the tuner:

  • Audio from your microphone is processed locally in real-time for pitch detection
  • Audio is never recorded
  • Audio is never stored
  • Audio is never transmitted to any server or third party

Practice recordings. Tempo Kit captures microphone audio and optional camera video after you press Record, so you can review your own playing:

  • Recording starts only when you choose. An active take can continue when you close the sidebar; stop it using the recording controls. In Firefox, keep the separate recording tab open during capture
  • Recording chunks and pending takes are saved on your own device for interruption recovery before you choose Keep or Discard
  • Recorded audio and camera video are never transmitted to us, our servers, or any third party by the recording feature
  • You can play back, download, or delete any recording at any time, and delete all of them at once from Settings

Microphone access is active while the tuner is running or an active recording uses it; camera access is used for camera recording. You can stop these features and revoke microphone/camera permissions through your browser's settings.

5. Tab Audio Capture (tabCapture)

On supported Chromium browsers, Tempo Kit uses the browser's tabCapture permission for two features: BPM detection and real-time pitch shifting on video pages you practice with. When either feature runs:

  • Audio from the tab is analyzed or pitch-shifted locally in real-time
  • Audio is never recorded
  • Audio is never stored
  • Audio is never transmitted to any server or third party

Tab audio capture is only active while detection or audio processing is running. Firefox does not provide this capture path; supported video pages use local page-audio processing instead.

6. Local Files

The local file player lets you open an audio or video file from your device and practice with it. Your files are handled with the same local-first rules as everything else:

  • Files are played and processed entirely on your device
  • Files are never uploaded to us or any third party
  • Files are never written to extension storage or any database
  • The file reference is held only in the player tab's memory and is released automatically when you load a different file, eject it, or close the tab

Presets may save your practice settings (speed, pitch, loop points) but never the file itself.

When you attach local sheet music or another local practice resource to a preset, Tempo Kit saves its file: URL and related details, such as the score page, in your device-local practice library. It does not copy the file into extension storage or upload it to Tempo Kit. The file stays at its original location on your device. Web links attached to presets are also stored in your local library. On Chromium, opening a local file from the extension may require you to allow file URL access; Firefox cannot open a local file link from the extension, so you must open that file yourself.

7. Payment Processing

Pro subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe as its payment processor. Tempo Kit does not collect, store, or have access to your payment card number, CVV or billing address. The payment form is hosted entirely on ExtensionPay's and Stripe's secure servers, never inside the extension.

ExtensionPay creates a licence credential that Tempo Kit stores locally and sends over HTTPS to ExtensionPay for account verification and checkout, trial or restore flows. The Firefox build declares this as authentication information. Licence requests do not include your practice library, journal, recordings, video URLs or local files. Account and payment details you enter on hosted ExtensionPay/Stripe pages are handled by those providers.

During account, trial, purchase or restore flows, Tempo Kit receives the limited account information needed to provide Pro access:

  • Your purchase email address, when provided by ExtensionPay, so the extension can show which email is active for Pro
  • Your paid/trial status and related dates, used to determine Pro access after ExtensionPay verification

This information is used for purchase, restore, subscription management, support, and entitlement checks. Pro access is verified through ExtensionPay and is not granted by trusting editable browser storage.

For details on how your payment data is handled by our processors, please refer to:

8. Website and Hosting

This website uses Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate page views and install-link clicks. Install clicks include the selected store, page, and button label. Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless and does not identify people, build profiles, or serve advertising. Website advertising is described separately below.

The website may also store small display preferences in your browser (such as light or dark mode, and layout choices like whether the tuning reference's piano stays pinned) so the site remembers them on your next visit.

Website analytics and advertising apply to this website only. The Tempo Kit browser extension itself contains no analytics or advertising trackers, as described above.

Like most websites, the hosting provider for this site may process standard technical request data, such as IP address, user agent, referring page, requested URL, and timestamps, for hosting, security, debugging, and abuse-prevention purposes. We do not use that data to build user profiles or target ads.

We may use Google Search Console to view aggregate search and indexing information for this website. Search Console does not add cookies, pixels, or client-side scripts to this site.

If you email us for support or use the mailto support form, we will receive the information you choose to include, such as your name, email address, purchase email, device/browser details, screenshots, messages, or video URLs related to the support request.

9. Sharing, Sale, and Advertising

The Tempo Kit extension does not sell personal information, share extension data for targeted advertising, or transfer extension user data to advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.

We share information only when needed to provide the service you request, such as payment and entitlement handling through ExtensionPay and Stripe; when you ask for support; when needed for security or abuse prevention; when required by law; or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Website advertising. Ads may help support this website. We may use Google AdSense to display and measure ads here. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar browser storage to serve ads based on your visits to this website or other websites. Google's advertising cookies let Google and its partners personalize those ads. Depending on your location and choices, ads may be personalized, non-personalized, or limited.

Advertising partners may receive website information such as your IP address, browser and device details, the pages you visit here, your consent choices, and how you interact with ads. Other third-party advertising vendors or ad networks may also participate through Google; their privacy policies and advertising choices govern their use of information. Your Tempo Kit extension data is separate from website advertising. Practice history, settings, recordings, local files, and other extension data are not shared with Google or other advertising providers.

Your choices. Before serving personalized ads in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we will use a Google-certified consent management platform where required. When a consent message is active, you can consent, decline, or manage your choices and revisit them through its privacy controls. Declining consent may limit or prevent ads.

You can also manage Google ad personalization in My Ad Center, and find participating advertising vendors' opt-out tools at YourAdChoices. These settings do not necessarily remove all ads. See Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from partner sites for provider handling and retention.

10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Tempo Kit uses Chromium extension APIs only to provide or improve the extension features described in the extension and Chrome Web Store listing. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Tempo Kit does not sell extension user data, use it for advertising, transfer it to advertising platforms, or allow human review of extension data except when you ask for support, when needed for security or abuse prevention, or when required by law.

11. Browser Permissions

Tempo Kit requests browser extension permissions only for user-facing features:

  • storage saves settings, presets, notes, saved video practice profiles, and minimal ExtensionPay status cache
  • Where used, unlimitedStorage allows locally stored practice data and recordings to grow past the browser's standard extension-storage quota. It only affects storage on your device and does not send that data elsewhere.
  • tabs helps find the video tab you are practicing with
  • YouTube and Bilibili host access and scripting allow Tempo Kit to connect its controls to supported video pages
  • Other sites are optional: Tempo Kit only gains access to another site when you click Connect there and approve the browser's permission prompt for that site. You can remove a site's access at any time from your browser's extension settings.
  • activeTab lets the Connect flow work with the page you are viewing when you invoke Tempo Kit
  • On Chromium, tabCapture and offscreen support local audio processing; the offscreen document also hosts recordings. Firefox uses page-audio processing and a visible recording tab instead
  • alarms schedules the practice reminder for the days and time you pick
  • notifications is optional: it is only requested if you turn practice reminders on, and it is used solely to show your own reminder
  • sidePanel displays the Chromium interface; Firefox uses its sidebar API

12. Security

Tempo Kit is designed to minimize the data we hold. Practice data stays in browser extension storage, microphone and tab audio are processed locally, and payment card data is handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe rather than by Tempo Kit. Network requests for Pro verification are made over HTTPS.

No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. You are responsible for keeping your browser profile, operating system account, and device secure.

13. Third-Party Libraries

Audio-processing libraries run locally inside the extension. The ExtensionPay library communicates with its hosted service for licensing as described in Payment Processing above.

For license notices, see our Licenses.

14. Children's Privacy

Tempo Kit is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information through support email or a payment flow, contact us and we will help address the request with the relevant provider where needed.

15. Retention and Deletion

Practice settings, Libraries data, journal entries, and practice recordings remain in your browser profile until you delete them, clear extension data, or uninstall the extension. Synced browser settings may remain in your browser account according to your browser sync settings. Exported backups, downloaded recordings and copies in a chosen folder remain outside the extension until you delete those files yourself.

  • To remove extension-stored settings and Libraries data: uninstall the extension or clear extension data in your browser
  • To remove practice recordings: delete a single recording from the Recordings tab, delete them all at once from Settings, or delete the journal day they belong to. Uninstalling removes them along with everything else.
  • Support emails are kept as long as reasonably needed to respond to your request, maintain support history, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations
  • To ask about support emails or payment-related data held by ExtensionPay/Stripe, contact us at crescendocompanion@gmail.com

16. Privacy Requests

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or limit certain personal information we can identify with you. For Tempo Kit, that usually means purchase or support information, such as your purchase email and support messages. Practice data is stored in your browser profile and is usually controlled directly from your browser.

To make a privacy request, email crescendocompanion@gmail.com. We may need to verify your request, may direct you to ExtensionPay or Stripe for payment data they control, and may keep limited records when allowed or required for security, transactions, support history, legal obligations, or dispute prevention.

The extension does not sell personal information or share extension data for targeted advertising. Website advertising providers may process information as described in Section 9; depending on your location, some advertising disclosures may be treated as sharing for targeted advertising. You can use the consent and opt-out choices above, and contact us about applicable privacy rights.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our data handling changes. The “Last updated” date above identifies the latest change. Where consent is required for a new use of personal information, we will ask for it separately.
